People lean on the balustrades talking, while inside the building attendants serve the gests. A guest on horseback, bearing provisions, travels along the path before the trees. On the opposite bank amid the distant mountain gorves are a Buddhist temple and pagoda. A wintry spirit pervades the painting. White pigment on the ridges of the roofs and on the tips of bamboo suggest a literary gathering just after snowfall. The artist's use of the brush in depicting the architectural details exhibits a precise delicacy that was seldom attained after the Sung dynasty.&*宏偉的水榭樓閣建築群,重檐歇山頂主殿,建築規模與量體龐大。 (20101015)&* In this painting is a majestic cluster of elaborate waterside pavilions, the main building featuring a double-eave, hip-and-gable roof. The scale and size of the building is enormous, being three stories in height and surrounded by a platform where people look off into the distance. The rocks and rooftops are covered with a pure white shod of snow, and a temple and pagoda appear in the distance with banners. In the building is a host with guests as ladies busily prepare food and drink for a banquet, to which guests are seen riding on horseback on a bridge by the stream. Crisscrossing the foreground are plum tree branches deriving much from the style of Ma Yuan. Close examination of the painting also suggests that the forceful strokes and lines came from the hand of a Southern Song court painter. The beautiful scene here might be a pleasing view somewhere near Hangzhou or related to a place where the imperial family was active.(20101015)
