He excelled at landscapes and was one of the Four Yüan Masters. In this monochrome ink painting is a river bank, scattered trees, bamboo, and a small pavilion. On the opposite bank, rounded mountains rise up to form a composition that is simple and pure with a sense of expansiveness and purity. The ink is light and elegant and a slanted brush was used to render the outlines of the rocks and mountains for force and weight. The brushwork for the bamboo is especially powerful, making this a masterpiece. (20120103)&*倪瓉(1301-1374)、江蘇無錫の人。字は元鎮、号は雲林、または迂翁。裕福な家に生まれ、自宅に清閟閣を建て古書画を収蔵した。山水画を善くし、元四大家の一人に数えられる。 本作には川岸やまばらに生える樹木、竹林、小さな亭(あずまや)などが水墨で描かれており、対岸には起伏に富んだ山々が見える。構図は簡潔で、荒涼としているが清逸な趣も感じられる。墨色は淡く上品で、山石の輪郭線は側筆で描かれている。力強い中にも落ち着きがあり、竹を描く筆遣いには特に力が入っている。倪瓉の傑作である。年款はないが、画風の特色から見て、おそらく70歳頃の作と思われる。。 (20120103)
