英文說明:Oil lamps were the used by early residents for lighting. They were filled with oil approximately to the halfway mark, to prevent spillage. A wick is inserted into the neck and extends to the bottom of the reservoir. The lamp was lit by lighting the wick above the opening. The cotton wick absorbed oil through capillary action and kept the lamp burning. This example has a globe-shaped oil reservoir and fins for stability. However, the lid is missing. Consequently, it is not complete. This oil lamp dates from approximately 1911.
