He excelled at painting and calligraphy and was an excellent connoisseur. The brushwork in his landscape paintings is pure, forming his own individual style. This painting is in imitation of Ts’ao Chih-po’s (1272-1355) “Studio in the Autumn Woods” and rendered with abbreviated brushwork and light ink. Tung’s version has slightly more animated awkwardness than Ts’ao’s style.
