&*These album leaves were originally signed as by Chao Meng-fu. This work, actually a late one by Yu Ho (1307-1382), is a transcription of "Model Essay for Draft Cursive" from History of the Han. Han and Chin draft cursive is archaicly simple, but here it is elegantly beautiful. Draft cursive script features exaggerated diagonal and horizontal strokes, which Yu has preserved in places. He also revealed the tip of the brush in many places. This is the 7th leaf from the album "Poetry and Calligraphy of the Yuan." Yu Ho, who resided in Hangchow, was taught calligraphy as a youth by Chao Meng-fu and copied the styles of the old Chin and T'ang masters. His semi-cursive script was very similar to (and often confused with) that of Chao Meng-fu.
