When he initially began painting, he studied with Chin Yüan, but later he became the pupil of Wang Hui (1632-1717) and Wang Yüan-ch’i (1642-1715). This painting reveals a mountain of precipitous peaks covered entirely with snow. Water flows and wintry woods are scattered throughout the scene, evoking a cold and desolate air. The style of peaks, water, and woods closely resembles that of the Sung painter Hsü Tao-ning.
