226-227 &*Lu Yu, a native of Shao-hsing in Chekiang Province, was a famous poet of the Southern Sung gifted at calligraphy. He was also an astute connoisseur of tea. The contents of this letter written in running script express gratitude to a friend with an accompanying gift of 30 "broad cakes" of spring tea as well as 50 fish. In the Sung dynasty, tea compressed into a rounded shape was counted as a "disc cake". Other forms were called "broad cakes" and still others included square broad cake and floral broad cake. That Lu Yu sent 30 broad cakes of tea indicates they were not "tribute tea" (which was meant for court), but the tea used among common folk. This account also tells how much Lu Yu was fond of tea.&*陸游(西元一一二五-一二一0年),為南宋名詩人,浙江紹興人,兼工書法。 (20100406)&* Lu You, a native of Shanyin in Yuezhou (Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province), was a famous poet of the Southern Song gifted at calligraphy as well.
