In this work are pavilions and hallways arranged from near to far using Western single-point perspective. The traditional activities of the nobility are all rendered with shading and perspective for realism. The scenery here of the 1st month is dominated by stretches of roll-top roofs and dividing walls. The perspective point in the lower half lies beyond the border off to the right. The roofs of Ch’ing imperial architecture tend to be plain and heavy, reflecting court grandeur. More emphasis is on tiles than wood, while walled surfaces replace “bargeboard panels” to create curves and flat surfaces. Railings include t’ao-fang and ch’i-lan styles. &* 清朝的院本十二月令圖，畫上並未簽署作者的姓名，但從筆墨的習慣來判斷，可能還是唐岱丁觀鵬那幾位畫家合作的。畫的主題，在描繪一年十二個月中，民間生活情形。可能是按各地鄉風，融會入畫，所以也有許多不容易找出原來的故事。 這一幅畫的是農曆正月。正月十五的元宵夜景，屋中盛張燈彩，室外放著煙火。有的人卻在賞月飲酒，後園裡結架懸掛著彩燈，許多小孩們在燈架下遊戲。上半幅山野之間點綴著提燈的遠景。 &*Occupations of the Twelve Months Painters of the Ch’ing Court The “Occupations or the Twelve Months”, although not signed, can be attributed on the basis of the brush-work to T’ang Tai,Ting Kuan-p’ang, and other painters of the Ch’ien-lung court(1736-1796). The set of paintings depicts the activities peculiar to each month; they follow no fixed program. The 1st Month The Yuan-hsiao festival falls on the 15th of the month. Here we see the interior of a house aglow with lights. Outside people stroll about, light lanterns, enjoy the reflected image of the moon, drink, or take in the sights of the city. One large exotic lantern is suspended from tall scaffolding in the rear courtyard; crowds of children play beneath it beating drums and performing mock theatricals.
