- 石渠寶笈初編（重華宮），下冊，頁806&*故宮書畫錄（卷五），第三冊，頁518&*故宮書畫圖錄，第十冊，頁147-148&* 王翬（西元一六三二－一七一七），常熟人。字石谷，號耕煙散人。清暉主人。烏目山人，劍門樵客。山水得王時敏指授，為清四大家之一。 康熙壬午七十一歲畫，疏林之下，茅屋數間，一人讀書坐堂上，兩牛傍籬，一立一臥。隔水平坡曼衍，丘陵起伏，平坡上有大小牛四頭，或漫步，或嚙草，覺牛背斜陽。層層暮景，意趣絕佳，為仿唐寅之作。 &* Wang Hui was a native of Ch’ang-shu, Kiangsu. He was a protégé of Wang Shih-min and both master and pupil are deemed in the Four Great Masters of the Ch’ing dynasty. The picture depicts a beautiful scenery of woods and buffalos with a river and riverside cottages in the foreground. It suggests at once a sunset scene of wooded banks where the herd and herdsmen have spent a day and are about to leave. Wang Hui was talented in copying the works of the past masters. In an inscription on the picture, the artist said: “T’ang Yin made an excellent copy of the lost Cattle and a Wooded Plain by Wen Tung. This is based on T’ang’s work.” The painting is dated 1702 when Wang Hui was seventy years old.
